The Cancer Family Book Project

It is amazing how quickly life can change. As a kid I imagined my parents would be with us forever. It was never a question or a thought that our time together would be cut so short. I can't complain about the time I had with them, though, because I feel like I won the lottery. They allowed me intimate access into their lives the way that most parents would never think to let their children in and trusted me with their story. After years, and many tears, I've decided to complete this project and create a book- one that will honor their memory and hopefully inspire anyone who sees it to look at their own life through a new lens. Its cliche, and I say it all the time, but life is short, and why do we wait until its almost over to truly see what living is all about. Now I know I'm starting to sound preachy, and a bit like a self help book, but I am grateful to have learned these lessons as early as I did. I wrote a piece that was published on the New York Times Lens Blog this morning reflecting on this 4th chapter in the project and launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production of the book. I hope you will take a moment to check out both of them. I know I have shared a lot of this process over facebook and I hope I havn't annoyed anyone but I want to thank you for listening, for being a virtual shoulder and for sharing back with me. What a truly magical and human experience it has been.

Also, I will be posting updates about the book as well as excerpts and photographs on the Cancer Family Project facebook page so I hope you follow along!
